Welcome to Lakeside-Milam Recovery Centers

 LMRC was established in 1983 with a single mission, to help victims and families recover from the pain of drug/alcohol addiction. Enlightened by the work of Dr. James Milam in the 1960’s and 70’s, the founders of LMRC created a treatment system based on a bedrock set of principles:

1. Addiction is a biogenic (i.e., physical) disease that ultimately affects every area of the victim's life.

2. The dysfunction of the genetically altered central nervous system causes the erratic behavior of the alcoholic.

3. Addiction is an eminently treatable disease that can be arrested like diabetes or hypertension, but not “cured.”

4. Treatment must be focused both on the cause and consequences of the disease and must engage the addict for at least six months.

5. The families of addicts are also negatively affected by the disease and need education to restore the balance of the family system.

6. 12-step programs offer the best long term support for recovery from addiction.

All of Dr. Milam’s research findings which infuse our services have been confirmed in the last 15 years by research funded by the US government.
