Facility Philosophy
Lakeside-Milam Recovery Centers is structured to treat addiction
problems and to help male and female patients to develop personal
growth. We believe alcoholism and other drug addictions are treatable,
and that they not only harmfully affect the involved person, but the
entire family and community as well. Further, we believe chemical
dependency is a disease affecting the physical, spiritual, social,
emotional, psychological, financial, and familial portions of the
patient’s life.
Our aim is to provide a safe, structured and consistent environment in
which the alcoholic or other drug addict individual is provided with
an atmosphere of trust and care, as well as a variety of learning and
therapeutic experiences. Through the program, emphasis is placed on
identification and admission of the disease, methods of maintaining
sobriety, and the establishment of new patterns of problem-solving and
living.
By establishing bonds of trust and love and by gaining a feeling of
self-worth, patients and the family are able to handle the realities
of existence on a day-to-day basis. Coping and communication skills,
coupled with an ongoing self-help program, are the replacements for
the chemicals that before were so important in the patient’s life.
We recognize that patients have different biopsychosocial needs and
enter treatment at different stages of illness in chemical dependency.
This requires individualized treatment and a variety of levels of care
provided in the least physically restrictive and most cost-effective
manner.
